Roll 1 - Primary Specs: All loot that is Bind-on-Pickup will be first offered to those in the raid that the item pertains specifically to at the time of the drop (based on spec and/or role in the raid). If a shield drops, and you are currently a prot warrior tanking during the raid, you are going to be able to roll on it. If you are currently specced Fury and are in the roll of DPS during this raid, you are asked to withhold from rolling.
If you are lucky enough to win your roll, you are expected to forgo all rolls on gear throughout the rest of the night for Primary and Off Spec rolls. You may still roll on Last Calls or Garbage Loot.
Exceptions may be made in extremely rare circumstances in the instance of someone speccing a specific way for a fight that may not necessarily use that spec under other circumstances. As a for instance, if a well known tanking Paladin in the guild needed to spec holy due to the specifics of a boss fight, then protection gear may be afforded to them. This determination should be made prior to the run and will be the final decision of the Raid Leader for the evening.
Roll 2 - Off Specs: If nobody in the run needs the piece in question, a second call will be made for people who will use items for other specs that they are not currently filling during the raid. This might be holy priests that sometimes go shadow, tanks that sometimes DPS, etc.. Please only consider yourself "off-spec" if you have full intentions of using the item in the near future, not simply because you "can" go off-spec. This includes roll call also includes healers that may want a particular item better suited for a DPS or a healing item better suited for a healer (as determined by the Raid Leader distributing the loot).
If you roll on win on an Off-Spec item, you are expect to forgo all rolls on gear throughout the rest of the night for Primary and Off Spec rolls. If you do not wish to lose your shot at something that might be better, its recommended that you simply withhold rolling at this level and wait for Last Call. If you win, you will still be able to roll on Last Calls or Garbage Loot.
Roll 3 - Last Call: Barring no need on either of the first calls, a third call will go out that anyone who can use the item and who wants it should roll. Rather than destroy the item, we want someone who thinks that they can get some use out of it to use it.
Garbage Rolls do not count against your loot totals if you win the item. While we expect people to follow an honor system and to not simply vendor an item, this is the only way that you can get things you want, but don't really need without losing your chance at something better later in the raid.
Roll 4 - Garbage Loot: If the item is still up for grabs, the item will be either disenchanted by an enchanter, or used as vendor trash. Everyone in the raid is allowed to roll on such an item, but should exclude themselves from future rolls of the same type for the rest of the night (or until everyone has received something).
Finally, the determination of an item's value shall be determined by the Raid Leader in charge of the run for the evening. You can expect most items to have a clear determination, but some, especially spell power, may require more finesse.
Though not a hard and fast law, items that benefit healers tend to have MP5. An item that say, procs off a resist would fall to a DPS. An item that has spell power may seem great to a Moonkin, but if that trinket procs a buff to Regrowth...then its for a healer.
Most of the time, the special text of the item will be its determining factor. More often than not, items will be applicable to both.
All looting guidelines shall be observed and administered by the raid leader in charge of the run, who will have the final say in loot distribution. If a member of the raid has concerns regarding loot distribution in a particular run, the concerns should be directed Usul or a raid leader, by ingame pst, mail, or forum PM
